Your Performance Review is Ready…
I think one of the hardest things about transitioning from being someone’s employee to being my own boss, was losing the utterly euphoric and intoxicating experience of receiving a performance review.
Call me crazy, as I know many find the experience to be extraordinarily stressful but to me there as no other high like it. Maybe it’s my virgo stellium, or my good girl praise kink, but something in me absolutely comes alive when someone is telling me the specifics of how well I performed. I’ve unfortunately had to stop asking people to rate my performance after I kiss them, it seems to turn them off I guess??? (weird! sound off in the comments with your thoughts on this)
But when my boss used to pull out their clipboard, with their detailed checklist of all the things I’ve done well recently…with examples!? How can you expect me not to fall in love!
In all seriousness though, I had an epiphany recently that being a business owner comes with the unique struggle of not having anyone to pat you on the back and tell you how good of a job you have been doing. And I realized about how badly I wanted someone to look at me and all the work I’ve been doing with my businesses, and affirm me. I desperately have needed someone to give me the gold stars, and make me feel seen and appreciated.
On a long list of things I already have to do, this new task has also now fallen to me to handle, and sometimes I just don’t have the strength or compassion to give myself a fair one. Turns out, I’m probably the meanest boss I’ve ever had, and every performance review I give myself is riddled with angry scribbles detailing all the areas I need to improve in, along with reminders of all my pitfalls, weaknesses, and other things I should’ve known or should’ve done.
So, I thought what better way to start this week than to give myself and every other business owner out there who might need one, a performance review.
Overall Performance: Be proud of yourself! You are doing much better than you give yourself credit for.
You show up every day, even when it is hard, and put yourself out there.
The love, passion, and hard work you pour into your work is evident in everything you do. The way you continuously seek to improve in all aspects of your craft or business is admirable and noticeable.
Your vision and creativity are driving forces that set you apart and make your business special. What you and your business offer to the world is so unique and needed.
You are making a difference! You are inching your way towards your goals one step at a time, and it is okay if your progress is not linear (things rarely are!)
You are exactly where you’re meant to be right now in this moment.
You are worthy of the success coming your way.
Needs improvement: Showing yourself compassion. Ignoring self doubt. Believing in yourself. Not comparing yourself to others. Asking for help!!! And lastly, in remembering that even when you do mess up now and again, you learn from it.
Final Notes: Believe in yourself and your dreams. You got this!
Thank you for joining me on this lovely Monday for OUR performance review. Drop a comment with the gold star you’re giving yourself and your business this week. Chances are, someone else out there also needs to hear it. And how are we ever to get through this rollercoaster of a journey called entrepreneurship if not together? ☺️
lots of love!
